Unbreakable Spirit

Recently, a former Executive Coaching client of mine reached out to me to share a poem her Dad wrote in 2011 when he learned his cancer was terminal. His words resonated very deeply with me. I know a lot of people are feeling overwhelmed, lost and perhaps, even facing their own grief journey right now. My client has graciously agreed to share her Father’s words with you.

She recently got a tattoo reflecting the poem. I think this sentiment is a beautiful continuation of their family’s love story and a way to carry her Dad forward with her.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL… AND INFINITE

THE LOVE OF FAMILY

THE LAUGHTER OF FRIENDS

THE BEAUTY OF NATURE

THE SERENITY OF PEACE

THE THRILL OF VICTORY

WE ARE ONLY LIMITED BY OUR FORGETFULNESS OF ITS POSSIBILITIES

LIFE CAN ALSO BE INFINITELY HARSH

THE LOSS OF FAMILY

THE CRYING OF FRIENDS

THE DEVASTATION OF NATURE

THE REALITY OF WAR

THE AGONY OF DEFEAT

THANKFULLY, WE ARE BORN WITH AN UNBREAKABLE SPIRIT TO CARRY US

THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES

WE KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE BECAUSE WE SEE IT EVERY DAY, IF WE KNOW

WHERE TO LOOK

IT’S A SHAME WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE THEIR SPIRIT IS UNBREAKABLE

FOR THEIR FEAR CAN BE PARALYZING AND THEIR PAIN CAN BE GREAT

WE MUST FACE ADVERSITY WITH COURAGE, KNOWING THAT OUR SPIRIT WILL

NEVER BE BROKEN

TIME AND DISEASE WILL ULTIMATELY TAKE OUR BODY, BUT NOT EVEN DEATH

WILL TAKE OUR SPIRIT

WE KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE BECAUSE WE SEE IT EVERY DAY, IF WE KNOW

WHERE TO LOOK

WE MUST LEARN TO EMBRACE OUR OWN UNBREAKABLE SPIRIT AND REMEMBER

THE POSSIBILITIES

FOR AFTER ALL,

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL… AND INFINITE
