The Importance of Feminine Energy in our Workplaces

In honour of Mother’s Day this month, I wanted to share my thoughts about the importance of feminine energy in our workplaces. First of all, let’s be clear, this type of energy can be emitted by anyone, regardless of their gender assignment. Feminine energy is a kind, nurturing, and caring energy that can also be seeped in intuition.

You may be thinking, those qualities aren’t in your personality repertoire. Or how would you be perceived by others if you leaned into your feminine energy at work? All good questions. But, stay with me, I want to present the business case to you as to why getting in touch with this side of yourself and allowing it to show at work is super important for your career and your ability to lead others.

First of all, let’s discuss what feminine energy is and how it can come out in your role as a leader. Feminine energy is when you relax into who you are deep in your core and take the time to really connect with people. It is not about drive or competition. It is looking at opportunities and challenges with an open heart while asking yourself what is possible and using your gut instinct to take steps towards that, being patient with yourself and others along the way. It is caring. Kind. But, also honest.

If a project isn’t going as planned, someone leaning into their feminine energy wouldn’t ignore the issue. They would pause and ask themselves, as much with their intuition as their head, what is going on here? They would then communicate openly with the team from a place of vulnerability (and of not having all the answers) to work together to rally the troops and take steps to get to the goal. The process is just as important to the goal from a feminine perspective. People in this realm feel they are doing the right thing every step of the way and if not, they listen to themselves and others until it is resolved in an open way.

The benefits of bringing out your feminine energy in the workplace are massive and include:

  1. Developing deeper relationships with your clients and colleagues -For example, feminine energy would have you remembering important things about others from a heart-felt place (not from a place of “I want their business so am going to check in on how their son’s swim meet was on the weekend.”) In time, people can see through inauthentic actions. And, it is also draining to perform that way. Actions come from a place of pressure versus a place of kindness.

  2. Conflict resolution - Feminine energy allows egos to be put to the side and discuss issues from a place of curiosity and kindness.

  3. Creativity and Innovation - Feminine energy is playful and light. It allows your right brain to bring forth ideas without fear of them being judged as dumb or unrealistic. From this way of thinking, anything is possible.

  4. Stress management - When a person leads from a place of feminine energy, they are behaving in line with a deeper purpose. They are more mindful throughout their day. Caring for others and themselves. And patient. At the end of the day, when a leader who embraces this side of their being, lays their head down on their pillow, they will feel a sense of peace knowing that they have led in line with their values and have connected with others from a heartfelt place.

I believe that the best leadership approach is balancing your feminine and masculine energies. Masculine energy brings greater decisiveness, assertiveness, confidence, drive, and fire. We need to incorporate these parts within our own individualized, authentic leadership styles, too.

I challenge you to take a look at the way you think and lead. How can you recalibrate your leadership style to lean into both sides of your natural energy? How do you quiet your brain more to listen to your gut? And, can you take steps to really connect with others from a heartfelt place of genuine caring and patience? While, at the same time stepping into your confidence and drive to make amazing things happen. It is a balancing act. But, one that is worth spending time examining to take your leadership ability to the next level!
